Aasted’s Commitment to a Sustainable Future – 2023 CSR Report

Our Sustainability Vision

At Aasted, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. Our 2023 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report reflects our dedication to balancing People, Planet, and Profit while advancing innovation in the chocolate, confectionery, and bakery industries. The report outlines our achievements, challenges, and aspirations as we strive to lead the transition towards sustainable production.

This year, we’ve made significant progress in reducing our environmental footprint and enhancing our social and governance practices. From lowering emissions to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, our efforts are rooted in a long-term commitment to sustainability.

2023 Climate Action and Results

One of the standout achievements of 2023 is our remarkable progress in reducing climate emissions. Aasted has not only surpassed its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) 2030 goal for Scope 1 and 2 emissions (direct and indirect emissions from our operations) but also set a new, more ambitious target: a 90% reduction by 2030.

Key climate initiatives include:

  • Transitioning to 72% renewable energy across our sites.
  • Implementing energy-efficient technologies such as heat pumps, resulting in a 14% reduction in overall energy consumption.
  • Planning an energy renovation for our test center in 2024 to further showcase our Energy Solutions concept and support our clients in reducing their energy footprint.

Our Scope 3 emissions, which include the impact of sold products, were calculated for the first time this year, setting a baseline for even greater improvements across the value chain in the coming years.

Circularity and Resource Management

A key focus in 2023 was shifting from a linear economy to a circular economy. We’ve taken steps to reduce waste, source circular materials, and design products that promote longevity and recyclability.

We believe in the power of sustainable design, and our goal is to close circularity gaps in our production processes while offering customers equipment that minimizes resource consumption and extends product lifetimes.

People: A Thriving and Inclusive Workplace

At Aasted, we understand that sustainability goes beyond environmental impact—it’s also about ensuring that our people thrive. In 2023, our workforce grew by 17%, and we focused heavily on creating an environment that fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We’re proud to create a workplace where people feel valued and empowered to grow both personally and professionally.

Governance and Ethics

Good governance and strong ethical standards are the foundation of our business. Our CSR report emphasizes the importance of responsible business conduct, which includes transparency, accountability, and a commitment to the highest environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.

In 2023, we continued to enhance our supplier management system, ensuring that 80% of our suppliers align with our Code of Conduct. We also reinforced our anti-corruption and whistleblower policies to encourage a speak-up culture, ensuring that any ethical concerns are addressed promptly and transparently.

Recognition and Future Goals

Our sustainability efforts have not gone unnoticed. In 2023, Aasted was once again awarded the EcoVadis Platinum medal, placing us in the top 1% of companies in our industry for our sustainability practices. This recognition motivates us to push further and continue to integrate sustainable thinking into every aspect of our business.

Looking ahead, our goals are even more ambitious. By 2030, we aim to:

Continue to innovate and deliver energy-efficient solutions that help our customers reduce their environmental impact.

Achieve net-zero emissions in our own operations.

Reduce Scope 3 emissions by 50% across our value chain.
